Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag
Hi y’all. I’ve seen the Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag going around for the last month and since it’s finally mid year, I wanted to attempt to answer the tag. At the time that I’ve started writing this, I’ve read 112 books (my original goal was just 52, but Goodreads was set to 100, and I never changed it).
These questions were really difficult for me cause I’ve never been good at making decisions and could choose multiple answers for each prompt, but I tried my best to pare my list down.
1. Best book you’ve read so far in 2020.
Okay already going to stray from the prompt because how do I pick just one? I talk about Red, White & Royal Blue all the time, but The Kinder Poison was definitely one of my fave reads too, and I’m desperate for the sequel.
2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2020.
There are several books where I haven’t got to read the sequel yet but I’m anticipating when I can get my hands on copy (Take a Hint, Dani Brown; A Court of Mist and Fury). I almost chose Percy Jackson and The Sea of Monsters for this one, but I have to hands down give it to The Devouring Land by Joshua David Bellin. The entire series was phenomenal and now writing this I realize how much I want to reread it. Maybe I can get people to read it with me mwahahaha
3. New release you haven’t read yet, but want to.
The wonderful momfluenster on IG gifted me You Should See Me in a Crown. I’ve been wanting it for at least a couple of months. I’m almost scared I’ve hyped it up too much in my mind, but I know it will deliver, and I’m so excited to read it (once I find time to).
4. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year.
Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas!!!!! “A trans boy determined to prove his gender to his traditional Latinx family summons a ghost who refuses to leave.” That sounds amazing doesn’t it?!?!
5. Biggest disappointment.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. There were so many plot elements that didn’t feel resolved at all by the end and nothing really happened in the story. If you care more for character driven stories, then it should be enjoyable but if you need a captivating plot this is not the book for you. I found the Simon and Baz chapters the most interesting so I’m going to give Carry On a chance but this is the second Rainbow book I’ve been disappointed by.
6. Biggest surprise
I know people loved this series, but I did not expect to love it as much as I did. I gobbled this book up in less than two days because I could not put it down. The characters and the setting were just so interesting, and I enjoyed telling my friend exactly how I was feeling at every turn in the book.
7. Favorite new author. (Debut or new to you)
There’s so many good authors I’ve found this year, some debut and some I’m just very late to the party, but some of my favorites are Jen DeLuca, Martha Waters, Jessica Scurlock, Piper Bee, Natalie Mae, Rick Riordan, Alanna Peterson, Joshua David Bellin, Emery Lord, Jenn Bennett, Ronni Davis, and Karen M. McManus.
After writing all this, I realize that it asked for only one author, but that was an impossible task.
8. Newest fictional crush.
Tamlin from A Court of Thorn and Roses. I’m willing to be embarrassed by this answer once I read A Court of Mist and Fury but for now I had to go with my gut.
Art by Gabriella Bujdoso
9. Newest favorite character.
I just finished this the day I’m writing this post but Oliver from Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall. He’s so sweet, and I want the world for him and for him to see how amazing he is.
10. Book that made you cry.
What book doesn’t make me cry? From my recollection though, this was the book that made me cry the hardest. I’m talking can’t even see the screen to read because the tears blurred my eyes.
11. Book that made you happy.
I’ll Give You the Sun kind of made me feel invincible by the end, and I just remember really enjoying it. I started the Percy Jackson series in May and I find so much joy in reading about Greek mythology, and I love the characters.
12. Most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)
The lovely lovely Boneschillingbooks on IG gifted me Felix Ever After and I mean cmon look at that cover.
13. What books do you need to read by the end of the year?
I really don’t know how to answer this question because there are so many I want and need to read. I’m on book tours in August for Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko and Now That I’ve Found You by Kristina Forest, so I can’t wait to read those for sure.
Thank you so much for reading my Mid Year Freak Out Book Tag! What books are you freaking out about?
