✨There Goes the Neighborhood by Jade Adia 03/07/ ✨There Goes the Neighborhood by Jade Adia 03/07/23 ✨

Thank you to @DisneyBooks @LetsTalkYA and @BigHonchoMedia for this free package 🫶🏼
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Teens pushing back against gentrification has become a favorite book topic of mine, and this one sounds like it has a great twist in it 👀, so I can’t wait to dive in. I also love the cover design of the book, and these fake spray cans that came with the package are so cute 🤩 (I already ate all the Sour Patch Kids oops).

Book Description ⬇️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The gang is fake, but the fear is real.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rhea’s neighborhood is fading away―the mom-and-pop shops of her childhood forced out to make space for an artisanal kombucha brewery here, a hot yoga studio there. And everywhere, the feeling that this place is no longer meant for her. Because while their little corner of South L.A. isn’t perfect, to Rhea and her two best friends, it’s something even more important―it’s home. And it’s worth protecting.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But as more white people flock to their latest edgy, urban paradise for its cheap rent and sparkling new Whole Foods, more of Rhea’s friends and family are pushed out. Until Rhea decides it’s time to push back. Armed with their cellphones and a bag of firecrackers, the friends manipulate social media to create the illusion of gang violence in their neighborhood. All Rhea wanted to do was protect her community. Her friends. Herself. No one was supposed to get hurt. No one was supposed to die.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But is anyone ever really safe when you’re fighting power with fear?

I had the pleasure of going to the Decatur stop on I had the pleasure of going to the Decatur stop on the Promise Boys tour, and it was such a great time. I loved getting to hear Nick talk about the book, and his insights into the craft of writing were so helpful.

S/O @braveandkindbooks for hosting. It was my first time there, and the store is so cute and welcoming. And s/o to @fiercereads for my Promise Boys hoodie. I felt extra fly 💁🏽‍♀️

I’ll never get enough of murder mystery books set in high schools, and this book surely didn’t disappoint. It’s a great option for young readers who’ll be able to see themselves or their experiences in these boys and the friends that loved them enough to fight for them.

Also long time no see 🫣 I’ve been working two jobs for a year tomorrow, and I still haven’t found out how to balance my life. I’ma get it together and start posting more eventually though. Just bear with me y’all 🤣🤣

2023 is going to be my year of sequels and sophomore novels. I’m always on top of reading a debut, but by the time the second book comes out I’m nowhere to be found. I’m excited to crack open more of these amazing authors’ writing.

These are just the ones that I have physical copies of, but there are plenty more that I want to read on Libby. Trying to actually start with the books I have so I can work my physical TBR down some 😅 (I know, an impossible task, but I will try nevertheless).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do you have a theme for your 2023 reading? What book are you starting the year with? I already finished my first book of the year (If Tomorrow Doesn’t Come) and it was so 🥹🥰.

✨YALLfest 2022✨ It was my second year at YALL ✨YALLfest 2022✨

It was my second year at YALLfest, but my first with publishers being there, and I had the best time. It all goes by so quickly, but here’s a small recap of the fun I had in those two days.

I got to meet Angeline Boulley, Jas Hammonds, Lindsay Puckett, Casey McQuiston and more people I love. I also randomly saw Chloe Gong at an intersection and joined her conversation very briefly 🤣

My favorite panel was Allowing for Anger. I love an angry MC, so it was great listening to writers talk about their experiences with anger.

I got more ARCs than I could imagine, and spent way too much of my own money on books (the Addie Larue special edition was $$)

I cannot wait until next year’s 🤩 And hopefully I’ll have a partner next year cause there were not enough me’s to do everything I wanted 😂
